The short answer
Once your glass is fully glued and cured, mix sanded grout to a thick-yogurt consistency, press it into all the gaps with a gloved finger, wipe the surface clean with a damp (not wet) sponge, let it haze over, then buff the glass clear with a dry cloth. White grout looks bright and airy; charcoal makes the colors pop like stained glass.

Step by step
- Cure first. Make sure the adhesive is fully dry (usually ~12 hours) so pieces don't shift while grouting.
- Mix sanded grout with a little water at a time to a smooth, thick paste — too runny weakens the joints.
- Work it in. Spread grout across the surface and press it into every gap; mosaic curves need you to work from several angles.
- Wipe back. With a damp sponge, gently remove the excess from the glass faces, rinsing the sponge often. Don't dig the grout out of the gaps.
- Haze & buff. Let the thin film haze (10–15 min), then buff the glass clear with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Cure & assemble. Let the grout set fully before fitting the globe into the frame.
White vs charcoal grout
White/light grout brightens and softens the design; dark/charcoal grout adds contrast and makes jewel tones glow. Pick based on the mood you want in the room.
FAQ
Sanded or unsanded? Sanded grout is standard for mosaic gaps — it's stronger and resists cracking.
What if grout dries on the glass? Buff with a dry cloth; a haze wipes off easily if you catch it before it fully hardens.
